The Jamaica Medical Foundation JMF), the health outreach arm of the Insurance Industry, in furtherance of its mission “to provide a lifeline to health” has donated Five hundred thousand dollars to purchase much needed medication for Melissa Hurricane victims. While persons experienced in the main damage to their homes, businesses, crops and livestock, there was also human toll. Many persons were displaced and did not have access to their vital medication many of which would have been lost during the disaster. One of the medication needs arising from the disaster was medicine to mitigate the risk of persons getting tetanus or “lock jaw” due to injuries received in the very dangerous environment after the passage of the hurricane, when persons could be injured with lots of zinc and nails lying loosely around. The JMF donation will focus on the Tetanus victims

The procurement and the logistics of the medication will be handled by the National Health Fund (NHF) who will use their system which includes mobile pharmacies along with a distribution network reaching into remote areas where there is a need for assistance by the victims. Mr Orville Johnson, Chairman of the Jamaica Medical Foundation, commended NHF CEO, Everton Anderson and his team for the tremendous job they have done in reaching out to the hurricane victims with critical medication.
